Documentation of D. D. Owen related on the Williams side of the family.

This is from the GAR of Vermont dated 27 September 1898 showing that D. D. Owen joined the post in 1884. It also shows that he was born in Palermo, New York, occupation clergyman and that he entered the army 1 September 1864 and was discharged 30 May 1865. He was discharged as a 1st Lt. from Company E 189th Regt., New York Volunteers. The document was signed in Ludlow, Vt. and indicates he was the Chaplain of the Department of Vermont GAR in 1897 and 1898.

D. D. Owen is shown in this picture from the regiment book. He is in the middle row on the far left as you look at the picture, the one with the muttonchops.

His pistol is shown below. It is a Tip-Up Spur Trigger Revolver Serial Number 6704 manufactured for Smith and Wesson in 1860 by L. W. Pond in Worcester, Massachusetts, .32 caliber, 4-inch octagonal tip-up barrel. Varnished rosewood grips. A similar model was allegedly also carried by General George Armstrong Custer, James Butler Hickok ("Wild Bill") and the man who shot "Wild Bill", Jack McCall.

D. D. Owen

This is a bearer bond brought back by D. D. Owen. It was an 8% bond issued by the Confederate States of America payable July 1, 1868. It was issued February 20, 1863. The 10 coupons are shown above the bond face.

D. D. Owen

D.D. Owen was a relative on the Williams side of the family. He was a Captain in the Grand Army of the Republic during the civil war and was present at Appomatox when Lee surrendered to U. S. Grant. D.D. later became a circuit riding preacher in Vermont and upstate New York.
