The first known photograph of paternal grandfather, Leslie Jacob Schuyler, born 17 March 1876 either in Glen or Amsterdam, New York. He was the son of Martin Jeremiah Schuyler and Florence Visscher. He had a younger brother Edward F. T. born 11 September 1878.
Leslie served as a First Sergeant with COMPANY H 2nd New York Volunteer Infantry ("46th Separate Company of Amsterdam, NY") during the Spanish American War. The unit spent much of the campaign in Florida but never made it to Cuba.
The 1900 census shows Leslie living as a lodger in Amsterdam.
On 17 May 1905 he married, in Erie, Pennsylvania, Sylvia Nell Williams of Essex, Connecticut. She was the daughter of M. Parker Williams and Emma Woodward. Sylvia and Leslie resided at 217 Millvale Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where their only child, Stuyvesant, was born on October 1, 1908. Dr. T.B.B. Johnson was the attending physician.

Leslie Schuyler was a lawyer with offices at 417-418 Dillaye Building in Syracuse, New York. He lived in Cazenovia, New York where he is interred.
Family lore indicates Leslie was somewhat of a ladies man and moved to Cazenovia after an altercation with a disgruntled husband at the Lurie Hotel bar in Amsterdam during which Leslie pulled his pistol and fired off a shot that broke the mirror over the bar.
Not a lot of information was recorded about Leslie but he did have two other sons later in life. Both of them lived in Baltimore. I will report their names when they turn up in the documents.
My memories of Leslie are few as I can only remember seeing him once in Cazenovia when he was ill and then at his funeral.
